Like Quentin Tarantino, I didn't go to film school. I went to films.

From 3 Ninjas and Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers to Boyhood, Mud, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower, one constant in my life has been the beloved motion picture.

I didn't play sports as a child. I didn't live in a big neighborhood with dozens of kids my age. What I did have was a TV in my bedroom (after a hard-earned victory against my mother) and a growing collection of DVDs.

Having seen over 1,000 movies, I'll do my best to let you know which ones are worth seeing and which ones you should skip. I won't cater to the words of others, I'll give you my honest point of view - do with it what you will and check back often!

5: The film is (near) perfect. If there are any flaws, they can easily be overlooked by the film's sheer scope and the evident skill of those behind and in front of the camera.

4.5: Almost there! There's just a glaring problem or two that can't be ignored so easily.

4: A very good movie that is, for most people, worth a watch. There will be some hinderances along the way, but I still see a great flick out of this one.

3.5: This won't be a movie on my "pick it up and watch it anytime" list. What earns a movie this rating is something(s) that elevate an otherwise average movie to another level - a great performance, a memorable scene, wonderful aesthetics, etc.

3: Passable - but barely. Overall it should work, but for too many reasons, the concept doesn't delivery very strongly. Or it shouldn't work, and for some reason, it does - and I'll try to pin down what that reason is.

2.5: Just missed the mark! There are signs of good filmmaking here, but despite its pros, I feel it's ultimately not worth the watch.

2: A 2 is a bad movie that I didn't hate. Its problems are obvious, but you might laugh once or twice - even if it is at how terrible it is.

1.5: Avoid this movie if you can. If you can't, you won't walk out of the theater - but you'll have the lingering feeling the entire time that you should.

1: It might kill me, but there's something about this movie that is somewhat good. Not redeemable, not great - just good. Everything else sucks.
